School of Global Governance Visited Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

Time: May 27, 2023

The School of Global Governance, Renmin University of China (RUC) organized a visit to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) headquarters on May 24, 2023, with over 30 faculty members and students participating.

As one of the “International Organizations in China” programs, the visit comprised two main segments: a discussion session and a tour of the AIIB headquarters. During the discussion session, Brian Carlo Hipolito, Senior HR Officer at AIIB, provided detailed insights into the bank's operations and employment opportunities.

Brian began by introducing the basic overview of AIIB, highlighting its achievements over the past seven years, including the completion of 217 investment projects benefiting 34 member countries within and beyond Asia. He emphasized the youthfulness and diversity of the AIIB workforce, comprising staff from 65 different countries, fostering a dynamic and inclusive work culture.

Subsequently, Brian outlined the recruitment process and discussed the employment benefits available at AIIB. He also addressed the students' inquiries regarding job opportunities, particularly focusing on the AIIB Graduate Program and offering practical advice for applicants.

During the Q&A session, students actively engaged with Brian, prompting lively discussions. Brian expressed his pleasure at the interaction and encouraged students to consider AIIB as a potential career path.

In response to questions about internship opportunities and preferred qualifications, Brian explained that AIIB offers positions beyond investment operations, including roles in areas such as human resources, IT, finance, security, and diplomacy. He emphasized the importance of tailoring resumes to highlight relevant skills and experiences based on the desired position.

Regarding career progression and the involvement of legal professionals in investment projects, Brian clarified that AIIB assigns approximately one legal staff member to each project and outlined the various career levels within the legal department. He also discussed the criteria for promotion, which depend on employees' performance and contributions to team achievements.

Following the discussion session, the group was led by Yin Lihai, a senior official from AIIB's Facilities and Administrative Services Department, on a tour of the AIIB headquarters. Students had the opportunity to experience the working environment firsthand and gain insights into the architectural principles underlying the construction of the headquarters building.

The visit to AIIB provided valuable insights into the operations of an international financial institution and offered students practical guidance for future career development in the field of international relations and finance.

As one of the School of Global Governance’s flagship programs, the 'International Organizations in China' visiting programs have visited more than ten international organization representative offices in China, enhancing students' understanding of international organizations, broadening their knowledge of the United Nations, bridging the gap between students and international organizations, and bringing international organizations closer to the youth of RUC.
