School of Global Governance organizes “International Organizations in China-A Visit to U.N. Association of China”

On 8 April, the“International Organizations in China” programme of the School of Global Governance(SGG) of RUC made a visit to the U.N. Association of China (UNAC). Shi Yan’an, Director of the International Office of RUC and Executive Director of SGG, Wang Zhijia, former Special Coordinator of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and lecturer of SGG, and 20 students attended this event. Zhang Dan, Vice President and Director General of UNAC, met with the students and faculty.

Zhang Dan welcomed the students and faculty of SGG and said that this was the first time UNAC had received students and faculty from universities after the outbreak of the epidemic. UNAC is the only NGO in China that aims to support and promote the purposes and principles of the UN Charter which aims to enhance the understanding, friendship and co-operation among the peoples of all countries, and safeguard the world peace and the common prosperity and development. It is hoped that students of SGG can leverage their language skills, understand the working system of the United Nations, continue to learn professional knowledge and become excellent international talents.

Shi Yan'an thanked UNAC and Zhang Dan for hosting the faculty and students, and introduced the work of SGG since its establishment. Since its founding, the School of Global Governance has implemented the 'Global Governance and International Organizations Talent Training Programme' and regularly organizes outstanding students to visit international organizations. He added that he hoped the visit would further enhance the students' understanding of the work related to the United Nations and strengthen the cooperation between the UNAC and RUC.

During the interactive session, students of SGG actively asked questions. Director General Zhang Dan answered students' questions on the training of talents for international organisations, participation of young students in UN affairs, selection of UN staff, the UN principle of respecting diversity, Security Council reform, China's position on UN-related issues, and the role of the UN Association.

After the symposium, accompanied by Feng Fei, Deputy Director of UNAC, teachers and students visited the exhibition halls of UNAC, gaining a deeper understanding of China's endeavours and contributions to strive for and safeguard its national interests and to promote world peace and development in the international community.

As one of the School of Global Governance’s flagship programs, the 'International Organizations in China' visiting programs have visited more than ten international organization representative offices in China, enhancing students' understanding of international organizations, broadening their knowledge of the United Nations, bridging the gap between students and international organizations, and bringing international organizations closer to the youth of RUC.
