School of Global Governance organizes "International Organizations in China-A Visit to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)".
Time: May 20, 2021On 17th May, the School of Global Governance of Renmin University of China (RUC) led the members of the AIIB study group, part of the ongoing 'International Organizations Competency Acquirement Programme', to visit the headquarters of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) at the Asia Finance Building in Chaoyang District. Wang Zhan, Manager of the Facilities and Administrative Services Bureau of the AIIB, received the students and teachers.
Manager Wang introduced the basic information about AIIB and its architectural features to the students. The AIIB headquarters building is a modern and innovative green building complex, fully embodying its core concepts of integrityand greenness, which pays special attention to environmental sustainability as well as the human experience, such as adopting a series of energy-saving measures to maximize the use of natural light, providing real-time indoor air quality news to staff, and so on.
Manager Wang then gave the group a review of the history of AIIB, highlighting the major milestones in the Bank's development and the efforts of the Bank, especially in the fight against the COVID-19. He also led the students to visit the functional areas, including the staff gym, executive dining room, medical area, florist, travel agencies and laundry, all of which demonstrated the convenience provided for AIIB staff.
The artworks displayed on both sides of the corridor in the working area, such as traditional Chinese paintings, calligraphy and oil paintings with other national characteristics, also give a sense of immersion as being in an art museum. Manager Wang also gave a special lecture on the architectural history and achievements of the AIIB permanent headquarters building, which enabled the students to fully understand the concept of sustainable environmental protection and traditional Chinese architectural wisdom embodied in the design of the building. At last, students and teachers visited the Sky Garden where offered a space for staff to rest and sometimes a place to organize activities, so as to provide staff with high quality work and life experiences.
During the visit, students and faculty members also exchanged views with Manager Wang on internship and employment issues. Manager Wang said that employment and internship opportunities at AIIB are openly available to the public on the official website, and that there are also Young Professional Programs for young talents to seek work and development opportunities. Students said that they had benefited a lot from the visit.
As one of the School of Global Governance’s flagship programs, the 'International Organizations in China' visiting programs have visited more than ten international organization representative offices in China, enhancing students' understanding of international organizations, broadening their knowledge of the United Nations, bridging the gap between students and international organizations, and bringing international organizations closer to the youth of RUC.
